The 'Centre d'Equitació Poni Club Catalunya'

The 'Centre d'Equitació Poni Club Catalunya' was founded in 1988 with the idea of encouraging riding among children from 3 years (the first Pony Club of Catalonia).

Inspired by the experience of other countries such as France, Holland and England, an equestrian tradition rooted in many years, with pony rides where the practice is common, we conditioned the place by adapting some old stables and making the first importation of Irish ponies so that the children had a confortable experience. After the first difficult years, because the ponies were not very common in our region, gradually came to be understood the advantages of pony trekking, where kids could handle, ride horses and love these small animals.

We organized the 1st Ponies Championship of Catalonia in 1990 with the 3 modes: jump, dressage and cross, with over 90 participants, and then the 3rd Ponies Championship of Catalonia (1992), after doing a second import of Irish ponies and then a third, this time from France.

As we saw the demand was rising, we entered the Horse Libery of horses and classes for adults to meet the present and about forty horses in Horse Libery and about fifteen horses club: beginners, advanced and competition, all of them trained on jumping, dressage and eventing.

We also have about 25 club poneys for beginners, advanced and competition; multipurpose both dressage and jumping to eventing too, of different sizes (B, C and D) for our young riders.

In 1998 we created the 'Petita Escola de Ponis', aimed at children from 3 to 6 years, introducing Shetland ponies and building a new installation with 2 tracks, houshold, shower for ponies and paddocks, all adapted to our younger students.

At present we have 18 Shetland ponies and over 50 students.
